March's CDOTM

Radio 1190’s CD of the Month is Gil Scott Heron’s I’m New Here out on XL Recordings.

After a 16 year hiatus filled with legal complications and drug addiction, Gil Scott-Heron has returned to his former glory with the release of his 13th studio album.  With I’m New Here, He has reinvented himself and built this record primarily as a spoken word piece over a subtle blues and electronic base.  This minimalist approach builds an intimacy the likes of which have never been seen in his previous works, making the listener feel just as exposed and vulnerable listening to it as he must have felt recording it.  Gil also shows his indie side by covering a Smog song for the album’s title track as well as joining on to XL Recordings, where his labelmates include MIA, Peaches, Radiohead and The White Stripes.  This new record marks a new and necessary chapter in the life of a legendary artist.

Local Shakedown Vol. 3 CD Is Out!

The 3rd Local Shakedown CD is out now! The double disc compilation features 41 bands of many different styles from Colorado's indie music scene. You can pick it up at Twist and Shout and Wax Trax. It's already gotten some great write-ups in the Colorado Daily, the Huffington Post and the Onion A.V. Club!

Listeners Love the New App!

We here at Radio 1190 saw a fine spike in our download numbers over the holidays.  It looks like lots of folks received iPhones and iPods for holiday gifts.  And, as it should be, one of the first apps they downloaded was Radio 1190.

What you get may sound simple, but for longtime fans of Radio 1190 who have put up with the great music coming via a less than perfect AM signal and have learned to live with little or no signal in the Denver area after sundown, this is a dream come true.  Radio 1190 as everyone has always wanted it, in FM stereo 24/7.

One of our favorite comments says "I can't believe that this application exists.  This is wonderful!" We are excited also.  We've been streaming on the internet for a while now.  With this new application, the great sound of the best independent music around goes portable.  Thanks to new technology, new people are finding out about Radio 1190 every day.  And, the more people who listen to us, the better chance we have of converting them into becoming eventual watt owners.
